NDIR sf6 gas process in high electrical switchgear

NDIR sf6 gas process in high electrical switchgear

Sep 30, 2020 · SF6 gas has virtually replaced oil and air as the dielectric insulator in medium (MV) and high (HV) circuit breakers, switchgear, gas-insulated substations and electrical equipment. Despite SF6 being an inert gas during normal use, when electrical discharges occur through the operation of high voltage equipment insulated with SF6, highly toxic by-products are produced that pose a serious health threat to workers.

  • Electron capture detector(ECD) method for sf6 gas switchgear

Aug 30, 2019 · The emitted electrons are accelerated in an electric field and ionize the background gas, normally ambient air. Ions and electrons are collected at the electrodes resulting in a steady-state ionization current. The presence of SF6 besides air reduces the number of free electrons, as they are now attached to the SF6 molecules. The decrease in the ionization current is proportional to the SF6 concentration.

  • Myth About SF6 Gas In Electrical Equipment

Where is SF6 used? The following applications are known. For some of these most probably you haven’t heard of. For sound insulation in windows, In vehicle tyres, Is SF6 a health hazard? Pure SF6 is physiologically completely harmless for humans and animals. It’s even used in medical diagnostic. Due to its weight it might displace the oxygen in the air, if large quantities are concentrating in deeper and non ventilated places. Is SF6 harmful for the environment? It has no ecotoxic potential, it does not deplete ozone. Due to its high global warming potential of 22.200 (*) it may contribute to the man made greenhouse-effect, if it is released into the atmosphere. What is the overall contribution of SF6 used in the electrical equipment to the greenhouse effect? Less than 0,1 % ( see CAPIEL) and CIGRE). In an Ecofys study the contribution to the greenhouse effect in Europe is estimated to 0.05 % (*).
